Re-Design

Same components, foot print, and function, but a new look.

Project Overview
Focusing primarily on product understanding, disassembly and cosmetic re-design the main focus would occur on creating the CAD model for the internal components. This was arguably going to be the most import part of the project, since the location of certain components was crucial for the proper use of the product.
Primary Learnings
Final renderings aren't everything. Throughout this project what I was most proud of was the detail and complexity of the internal components and how the plastic shell would fit around them. However, I found myself getting so excited about solving the problems of fitting all the internal components into the final design that I loosened my grip on the overall changes to the product.
Basic Render
Initially the original sound meter product was disassembled and all of the primary components such as the PCB and the microphone were documented. The entire functional aspects of the sound meter were reversed engineered into Fusion 360.

Once the base components were all developed into the CAD software the external plastic shell was designed and the constraints of fitting the original PCB was accommodated.

Once the design was developed and built within Fusion 360 a set of BOM drawings was created in order to document all of the necessary parts necessary for the meter to be operational.

Final Take Aways

From this project my abilities to organize parts, for future assembly substantially improved. This allowed for constant and smooth workflow while also making a more productive time frame. However, in future projects I will look to improve the simplicity and organization of my product drawings.
